Call for Papers: 2nd Annual Women’s Research Conference at Debre Berhan University

Fostering Women’s Engagement in Science, Research, and Innovation for Sustainable Development

Across the world, women are driving change through research, innovation, and leadership. Yet in many contexts—including Ethiopia—women researchers continue to face structural, cultural, and institutional barriers that limit their visibility, participation, and impact in science and knowledge production. Recognizing both the challenges and the immense potential of women scholars, Debre Berhan University (DBU) proudly announces the 2nd Annual Women’s Research Conference, a dedicated academic platform designed to amplify women’s voices, ideas, and contributions.

Organized by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, this year’s conference will be held on February 17, 2026, under the powerful and timely theme:

“Fostering Women’s Engagement in Science, Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development.”

The conference invites women researchers only—from diverse disciplines and career stages—to submit original research that addresses pressing societal challenges and advances sustainable development through science, innovation, and scholarship.

Why a Women’s Research Conference Matters

Women represent a significant share of Ethiopia’s intellectual capital, yet their participation in research and innovation remains disproportionately low. Limited access to funding, mentorship, publication opportunities, and leadership roles continues to hinder women’s full engagement in academia and research ecosystems.

The 2nd Annual Women’s Research Conference is more than an academic event—it is a strategic intervention. It creates a safe, inclusive, and empowering scholarly space where women researchers can:

  • Share original research without marginalization
  • Gain academic visibility and professional recognition
  • Build networks with fellow women scholars
  • Contribute evidence-based solutions to national and global challenges

By centering women’s research, Debre Berhan University reinforces its commitment to gender equity, academic excellence, and sustainable development.

  • What role do science and innovation play in addressing gendered social challenges?
  • How can emerging technologies be leveraged for inclusive growth?
  • What policies and practices can strengthen women’s participation in research ecosystems?

The theme aligns closely with Ethiopia’s development priorities, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and global commitments to gender equality in science and innovation.
