EAES announces the Mid-Year Exit Exam Schedule 2026

The Educational Assessment and Examination Services (EAES) has officially released the timetable for the highly anticipated Mid-Year Exit Examinations for the 2018 Ethiopian Calendar (2026 G.C.).

Thousands of final-year university students across Ethiopia will sit for their exit exams starting Tuesday, February 24, 2026, with the schedule running through Wednesday, March 4, 2026. The exams are organized by field of study, with specific dates and sessions assigned to each department.

In Ethiopia, exit examinations are mandatory assessments administered at the end of an academic semester or year. They evaluate a student’s mastery of their field of study, ensuring they meet national academic standards before advancing to the next level or graduating. These exams also provide data for program evaluation and accreditation purposes.

Exam Structure and Session Timings

Each day’s exams were divided into multiple session blocks to efficiently manage student volumes and disciplines:

  • Session 1 (Morning): 8:00 – 10:30
  • Session 2 (Late Morning / Early Afternoon): 11:00 – 1:30
  • Session 3 (Afternoon / Evening): 2:00 – 4:30, 5:00 – 7:30
  • Extended (Some Departments): 8:30 – 11:00, 2:30 – 5:00

The extended blocks allowed flexibility for practical exams, group assessments, and problem-based evaluations in fields such as health sciences, engineering, and computer science.

Why These Exams Matter

Exit examinations in Ethiopia serve multiple national objectives:

  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring academic programs meet standardized benchmarks set by the Ministry of Education and professional councils.
  • Graduation Eligibility: Students must pass exit exams to qualify for degree completion or progression to higher levels of study.
  • Workforce Readiness: Assessments verify that graduates possess the knowledge and skills needed for public service, industry, and global engagement.
  • Institutional Accountability: Results inform universities on curriculum strengths and areas that may require improvement.

With the scheduled exit exams now concluding on March 4, 2026, universities will soon begin processing and releasing results. These results will guide graduation confirmations, determine eligibility for internships or public service placements, and feed into institutional performance reviews.

As Ethiopia continues to expand higher education access and quality, the 2026 mid-year exams mark a crucial checkpoint for the nation’s aspiring professionals.
